Knee Injections

What is Hyalgan?

Hyaluronate is a naturally occurring chemical found in the solution HYALGAN®. The fluid that lubricates and cushions your knee joint typically contains hyaluronate. Your knee receives an injection of HYALGAN® to treat osteoarthritis discomfort. For those who do not experience adequate pain relief from over-the-counter medications (such as Tylenol® or Advil®) or from physical activity and rehabilitation, HYALGAN® is a treatment option. Injections of HYALGAN® can be used in addition to painkillers with a prescription.

HYALGAN® is injected directly into your knee by your healthcare provider.

  • A 5-injection course of HYALGAN® is administered at weekly intervals and offers
long-lasting pain relief for up to 6 months.
  • Three injections given at weekly intervals can be beneficial for some people.

Indication

HYALGAN® is prescribed for individuals with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee who have not found adequate relief from basic analgesics like acetaminophen and conservative nonpharmacologic therapy.

Platelet-rich plasma is made up of two components: platelets, a type of blood cell that is crucial to overall bodily repair, and plasma, the liquid portion of blood. In addition to their well-known clotting properties, platelets also contain growth factors that can promote cell proliferation, encourage tissue regeneration, or hasten healing in the treated area. Simply said, platelet-rich plasma is the blood that has more platelets than usual.

A patient's blood sample is used to make platelet-rich plasma, which is then injected into the wounded area, such as a tendon or knee, as needed. The doctor may occasionally utilize ultrasonography to direct the injection. To hasten the healing process, it is intended to raise the concentration of particular proteins or hormones, known as growth factors, in a particular location.

Several musculoskeletal injuries and diseases may be treated with PRP injections. For instance, adding PRP injections to a therapy plan can speed up the healing process, lessen pain, and permit a quicker return to activities for chronic tendon injuries like tennis elbow or jumper's knee.
